Lynn Marie Hall
Using the mediums of painting and photography, I examine different aspects of our man-made and natural environments. My aim is to create thought provoking works reflecting the subconscious connections that we form with our surroundings, i.e. our homes, landscape, spaces and curiosities. I explore how everyday items appear slightly alien when removed from their usual context. Our recollections of familiar things can be altered significantly by the passage of time, and the effects of light and darkness will result in forms developing an ambiguous presence. I consider scale and appearance, from the minute to the massive, the complex to the mundane, and I think about the associations we make with particular objects or spaces. The way we view our surroundings is crucial and can affect our perception of what is there, for instance the filtering effect of looking through glass, distortion that appears in a photograph or how one thing can look like something else entirely when seen only for a fleeting moment.
